In the courtroom, precision matters and Tracey L. Dellacona brings it with the steady hands of a seasoned nurse and the sharp mind of an accomplished attorney. As the owner of Dellacona Law Firm, LLC, she stands at the rare intersection of medicine and law, transforming complex medical details into compelling legal arguments. Her years in the health care sector grant her an insider’s understanding of medical intricacies, allowing her to bridge the gap between legal strategy and clinical reality. Clients trust her not just to fight for them, but to truly understand the medical stories at the heart of their cases.
Tracey’s professional journey began in the charged atmosphere of the Emergency Department and Cardiac Care Unit. As part of the hospital’s elite Cardiac Code Team, she responded to “code blues” across the facility—moments where every second mattered. The role demanded not only medical expertise but also the ability to remain calm, think several steps ahead, and quickly understand each patient’s medical history. This intimate knowledge allowed her to be a strong advocate for her patients, a quality that would later define her legal career.
Though she excelled as a nurse, the law captured her interest in an unexpected way. Advocacy seemed to run in her family—she later discovered she was descended from both a governor and a judge. Caring for others, making things right, and improving lives were values she carried into every profession she pursued.
Education as a Foundation for Advocacy
Encouraged by her educator parents to embrace lifelong learning, Tracey earned a nursing degree, followed by a law degree, and then an MBA. Each step added a new dimension to her skills, creating a unique professional profile that has proved invaluable in her legal career.
Her time at Mercer Law School in Macon, Georgia, proved transformative. An internship with Georgia Legal Services, focused on healthcare for women prisoners, introduced her to notable attorneys including Gary Christy and former Supreme Court Justice Hardy Gregory, Jr., who offered her a summer clerkship. This early opportunity became the gateway to a network of respected legal minds in Georgia, from seasoned trial lawyers to influential judges.
Influencing Georgia Law Through Landmark Cases
Tracey has played pivotal roles in several high-impact cases that shaped Georgia legal precedent. These include:
- Howland v. Wadsworth (2013 COA): Established that a jury determines if the gross negligence standard applies in emergency medical care.
- Evans v. Caldwell (2015 COA): Clarified that not all surviving children must be named in wrongful death suits.
- Dean v. Central Georgia Women’s Health (2017 COA): Affirmed the role of expert testimony and the admissibility of certain physician records.
- Evans v. MCCG (2021 COA): Determined that whether an ER nurse’s negligence caused a patient’s death is a jury question.
- Turner v. MCCG (2024 COA): Confirmed no cap on non-economic damages in cases where expert testimony proves causation.
- Hinnant v. Mont-Louis (2025 Bibb State Court): Resulted in a record-setting $25 million verdict for a stillbirth case.
Her dual qualifications as a registered nurse and an attorney, an uncommon pairing in Georgia, allow her to approach medical malpractice and negligence cases with rare insight. This combination strengthens her firm’s ability to challenge standards of care and hold institutions accountable.
Standing Firm on Transparency in Healthcare
One of Tracey’s proudest professional moments came when she refused to sign a hospital’s confidentiality agreement in order to access its policies and procedures during a negligence case. The court ruled in her favor, declaring such documents not to be proprietary, thereby setting a precedent that promotes transparency in patient safety claims.
Dellacona Law Firm: Advocacy with a Personal Touch
Tracey’s practice, Dellacona Law Firm, focuses on medical malpractice, nursing home negligence, wrongful death, and catastrophic injury cases, including multimillion-dollar settlements in trucking and vehicle accident claims. Yet, what sets her apart is her commitment to treating clients like family. She maintains close relationships long after cases end, ensuring they know their voices are heard and their stories told.
Building a Legacy of Integrity and Community
For Tracey, leading Dellacona Law Firm is about far more than winning cases—it’s about setting a high ethical standard, mentoring the next generation, and giving back to the community that has supported her for decades. She takes pride in serving as a role model, not only for young attorneys but also for her granddaughter, Logan, who is currently completing her second year at Mercer Law School.
Her team includes Kim, Amanda, and Leah who are more than employees; they are part of the firm’s family. Together, they have built a culture of excellence that extends from the courtroom to the community. Dellacona Law Firm sponsors Women Build: Macon Area Habitat for Humanity, where the team spends the day hands-on—landscaping, laying hardwood floors, painting, and connecting with future homeowners. They also back Middle Georgia Justice, an organization providing free legal services to residents who cannot afford them, and support the “Blessing Box” initiative in Crawford County, which offers food and essential items to anyone in need. The firm even organizes pet food drives for Meals on Wheels for Pets.
Recently, Tracey took on a new role as Event Director for the Middle Georgia Council of Boy Scouts’ annual team clay target competition: a challenge she’s excited to embrace.
Clients as Family
To Tracey, clients are more than cases—they’re family. She makes it a point to sit down with each one, explaining the legal process thoroughly, answering every question, and ensuring they have her personal cell phone number. Her open-door approach extends beyond formality; she’s a self-proclaimed “hugger,” often forming bonds that last long after the verdict.
She treasures the updates she receives photos, texts, and emails which are showing the positive ripple affects her clients create in their communities after their own pursuit of justice. “Your story will be told, your voice will be heard,” is a promise she keeps to each of them.
A Relentless Work Ethic
Tracey’s dedication is evident in her schedule—often arriving at the office by 5:30 a.m. to focus entirely on the clients who need her most that day. She has been practicing law in Macon since 1994, and the demand for her expertise is stronger than ever. While the thought of slowing down occasionally crosses her mind especially when she longs for more time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and horses; retirement isn’t on the horizon just yet.
Life Beyond the Courtroom
Outside the office, Tracey finds balance on her farm, riding horses, tending to her vegetable garden, caring for her animals, and restoring old homes. She calls it “decompression”, a way to recharge after the intensity of legal work. Evenings often include dinners and laughter with friends, many of whom were once clients.
A Courtroom Mantra
In Tracey’s conference room, one phrase is proudly displayed a line that became her rallying cry during the Wadsworth trial: “I am coming, but I am bringing hell with me!” (from Tombstone, 1993). It’s more than a quote, it’s a statement of how she approaches every case: with fierce commitment, unyielding advocacy, and the resolve to see justice served.
Her peers have consistently acknowledged her dedication and ethics, awarding her an AV Preeminent rating and naming her the 2024 Lawyer of the Year by the Macon Bar Association. She has also been recognized as a Georgia Super Lawyer for 12 consecutive years. Tracey continues to mentor younger lawyers including her granddaughter, now a law student while leading her firm with integrity and purpose.
